For the next phase of growth, the nonprofit’s president Luana Mahi said Tuesday evening that the center has plans to build a collaborative website and open a commercial kitchen facility for local entrepreneurs to use.

Mayor Michael Victorino announced the award of three County of Maui grants totaling $155,000 to three nonprofits to support farmers, food security, workforce development and diversified agriculture, the Office of Economic Development announced. MFTC has received a $25,000 grant for its Maui Sunday Market project.

MFTC’s virtual webinar series in December 2021 will feature industry experts providing helpful tips and resources to help you succeed in today’s marketplace. Three workshops will be offered on exporting to Japan, food safety and food labeling.

Brilliant Minds Media Inc. has released a series of three educational videos to help raise awareness of the traditional Hawaiian culture of the Ahupua‘a system.

This week, the Maui Nui Ahupua‘a Project installed their first sign in the Moku ʻO Wailuku on the UH Maui College campus. The Maui Nui Ahupua‘a Project was created to bring awareness and revitalize the traditional Hawaiian ahupuaʻa names within each moku in Maui County.

MFTC is working with the County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Services Office on Aging, the University of Hawai‘i College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources (CTAHR) and the University of Hawai‘i Foundation on a residents feeding program on the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai.

Starting on July 22, 2018, MFTC will present a new weekly event on the Valley Isle called the “Maui Sunday Market.” Held at the Kahului Shopping Center parking lot, the event will showcase island vendors, entertainment; food trucks and more.

The 2019 IFIA Trade Show was held on May 15 - 17, 2019 at Tokyo’s Big Sight’s Aomi Exhibition Center Halls A and B. This show focuses on ingredients that are suited for use by manufacturers for use in value-added food products.

On September 6-8, 2017, MFTC participated in Japan’s largest gift fair, the 83rd Tokyo International Gift Show. Local businesses who participated were: Zellee Organic, Maui Upcountry Jams & Jellies, Maui Preserved, Wrappily, Zen Island Kitchen, Maui Winery and Maui Nui Wear.
